The earliest form of house music was played in the early to mid 1980’s. House music was developed by club DJs in the city of Chicago in United States. The influence of certain elements like the funk infused dance music style and disco style can be seen heavily in house music. The origin of the name house music is uncertain. Some suggest that the name is derived from the name of the club called The Warehouse. In the late 70’s and early 80’s warehouse parties that were held underground were very popular in the city of Chicago. Now one of these underground parties that were frequented mostly by Latino and black gay man was known as the warehouse.

The Dj at The Warehouse Frankie Knuckles mixed European synthpop music with mixed classic disco music, punk recordings, industrial music and the new wave music for people who were regulars there. Frequent clubbers referred this music as House Music and thus the name cam into being. But as mentioned earlier this is disputed. Musician Larry Heard claims that the term House Music comes from the fact that most of the Djs records the music at their house. Generally these Djs use drum machines and synthesizers to record the music at their house and hence the term House Music came in to being. Dj Chip E has another story to tell behind the popularity of the name House Music. Chip claims that the name came from the method of recording at a studio. However none of the claims are conclusive.

House music developed in houses, clubs and garages where mostly teenagers and local club goers used to assemble. The popularity of house music increased when the music was played in commercial radio. House music was much longer and conceptual then any other type of music and also this music was not meant for widespread commercial use. Basically house music combined the traditional elements of the musical instruments to give it a more humane touch. The house music scene is very popular worldwide even today as many musicians have made huge contributions towards this. Many new generation producers and Djs have emerged in the house music scene and their main purpose is to make House Music popular.

House Music is popular these days and this music can be seen to be catching up in Detroit, New York, Atlanta and some other cities in America where people of racially mixed origin reside. It is not only in USA that the music is catching up but also in several countries worldwide like Germany, Australia, Canada and Scandinavia. Recently the Mayor of Chicago proclaimed that 10th of August to be celebrated as house Unity Day in the city. The craze for House Music is one the rise and this is evident worldwide.

History of Indian Music

Indian music is regarded as one of the oldest in the world and reflects the rich cultural and traditional values of the country. The history of Indian music is as old as the history of the nation itself. According to Indian mythology, the divine sage Narada was the first sage to whom the laws of music were revealed and he brought the art of music from heavens and introduced it to Earth. Tumburu is considered as the first singer ever to use the art of music for singing. Goddess Saraswati is considered as the goddess of music and learning. It is believed that the sacred sound 'Om' is the holy origin to all other sounds and music on this earth.

History of Indian music dates back to the prehistoric times when the Vedas were created. The colloquial term for music 'sangeet' includes vocal singing and instrumental music accompanied by dance. Historically, devotional Indian music was played in the royal court and temples of India, and hymns were written by learned men especially appointed for this very purpose. Indian music has two important elements -- the 'raag' and the 'taal'. While 'raag' implies melodic modes used in Indian classical music, 'taal' implies the rhythm of music.

The musical chanting of the Samaveda and instrumental music characterized the vedic music that became famous between 1500 BC and 500 BC. Marga sangeet became famous during the period between 500 BC and 200 BC. During this period, Ramayana, the oral epic, was composed by the sage Valmiki in the form of musical verses.

The period between 200 BC and 300 AD is the period when music and dance gained prominence. Chhalikya, a genre of songs in the ancient Gandharva mode of music making (the techniques of playing musical instruments), and the Hallisaka dance gained a lot of popularity during this period.

The period between 300 AD and 600 AD was famous for the great musical works of Kalidasa. During this period the Gupta kings popularized music in sacrificial areas, temple premises, stages and in the royal courts. Temple spaces were used to create and popularize new genre of music. Music was popularized through the Puranas. Sama-gayan evolved into the mainstream music of this period. Dattilam, the musical textbook helped develop the melodic jati-gayan.

The period between 600 AD and 1700 AD was heavily influence by the Mughal culture. With the invasion of the Mughals, the music of northern and central India got heavily influenced by Arabic and Persian cultures and led to the birth of a new form of music known as Hindustani music. However, the music of south India, known as Carnatic music, never got influenced by any invaders and remains the same till this day.

Music for Teens: Review on Positive and Negative Impacts

Music is the "Universal Language" - everyone, everywhere can relate to the message of music. Music with lyrics can clearly stress its message. Music without lyrics or what we called as "Instrumental" can still
relay message to us by making our imagination awake and recalling some events in our lives, experiences and moments. Some people listen to music to relieve stress.Doctors and Therapists use music as therapy to treat patients with anxiety, illnesses and even to change one person's behaviour. Music
can affect our emotions.

Two impacts of music to minds:

The positive impact of music to mind is to unwind our minds, most of the times that we listen to good lyrics, it also dominates our actions. Such as listening to love music, it makes us act out the kissing words, or inspires us to make love smoothly, loving our parents, loving God, loving friends and etc. Good music can make immature, mature and violent minds switch to peaceful reaction.

The negative impact of music to mind is so affective and said to be so great that constantly repeats violent words and phrases etches those ideas in the mind. This causes the listener to react or act out on what he
has heard, especially to immature minds that listen to it. Due to this, it is recommended to the adults, parents or guardian to closely monitor their kids / teens in choosing their favorite types of music because it brings out violent or negative messages. This can influence your teen's behaviour greatly, including the way he thinks, talks, choose friends, and even the clothes he chooses to wear.

Music has lots of benefits to people. Using music as inspiration for guiding family is always effective too. Above all using music to get to know your teen's secrets and getting really close to them is the most effective way.

Freestyle Music

Freestyle music was very popular if not the most popular style of music in the late 1980's. Music stations such as Hot 103 in New York City gained a tremendous following due to freestyle music. Such artists as K7, Lisette Melendez, Judy Torres and George Lamond were pretty much household names. The most well known and respect music producer of freestyle music was Carlos "After Dark" Berrios.

However, as the years went on music stations started changing their formats, moving away from freestyle music and playing more rock, alternative music and hip hop. The big record labels began to dictate what the stations were to play and the genre slowly began to disappear from the air waves.

For fans of freestyle music, Carlos Berrios decided to revive the genre by producing a brand new double CD entitled "Don't Look Back" broken into Session One and Session Two. Old school artists such as George Lamond, Lisette Melendez and K7 perform on the albums. New school artists such as Joei May, Katya and Jessica Fabus perform on the albums as well.

Will radio stations in markets such as New York, Los Angeles and Detroit start playing this new material? I doubt it as commercial radio pretty much plays the same 30-35 tracks every few hours. Fortunately for true fans of the 1980's genre of freestyle music, we can still get our hands on some new material thanks to Carlos Berrios.

For more information on new freestyle music being released, go to http://www.ADMRecords.com

If you're a fan of freestyle music you can get more information on new freestyle music by visiting http://www.ADMRecords.com

Anthony T.
